Miss Anna Clarke is an experienced consultant paediatric orthopaedic and trauma surgeon. After fellowships in Australia and Southampton she took up a consultant post at Bristol Royal Children’s Hospital. This is one of the most esteemed paediatric centres in the UK and the second busiest trauma centre.
Her specialist interests include the orthopaedic management of neuromuscular conditions including cerebral palsy. She set up the specialist multidisciplinary clinic at BCH for the assessment and ongoing management of musculoskeletal issues encountered in children who have undergone selective dorsal rhizotomy, and sits on the SDR MDT panel. She has experience in muscle lengthening and ongoing monitoring and surgery that may be required in this specialist group of patients.
She is also the trauma surgical lead, head of the major trauma centre, and takes great care and interest in the bespoke technical aspects of the management of traumatic injuries and fractures in children.
Her sub specialist expertise extends to treatment of conditions of the upper limb in children. She set up and continues to run the complex upper limb orthopaedic clinic, and has shared responsibility for 2 separate regular clinics for rare and complex conditions or consequences of trauma in the upper limb, with 2 of her plastic surgery expert colleagues.
An examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons, surgical tutor and educational supervisor her non clinical roles include training of future orthopaedic surgeons.
Mother of two, food fanatic and keen home chef, she enjoys cooking for friends and family in her free time.
